In 2014, Derwen College became the first provider in Shropshire to offer the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) for students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

What began with just 11 students undertaking the Bronze Award has since expanded to include Bronze, Silver, and Gold levels. We are now proud to say that over 400 students have completed a least one award during their time at College.

We take immense pride in both our DofE Awards programme, and in the students who push themselves to take part. The awards provide students with opportunities to achieve personal goals – many of which they, and others, once thought impossible. It fosters self-esteem, confidence, and essential skills for life, work, and independent living.
